What we offer
We offer Child Inclusive Mediation (CIM) helping children to have a voice, giving them the opportunity to share any worries of concerns with a specially trained mediator , while their parents are in mediation together. It allows children to be listened to, to talk about what the change is like for them, and what may be important to them. It helps the parents to focus on the children and their needs,
What is it like for the children
Children may find it hard to talk to their children at this time, often experiencing divided loyalties or feelings that they don’t know how to express. They may want to help, but can worry about being responsible for decisions, or hurting people’s feelings, and will sometimes tell parents what they want to hear. Children say it can be a relief to have a neutral person to talk to. They benefit from knowing their parents want to hear what they have to say, and may have useful ideas that can be helpful to all.
How does it work
If you both agree, a separate consultation will be arranged between the mediator and the children. During the confidential discussion, the children will not be asked to make decisions or to take sides, and they will not be given advice. They will choose what information or suggestions, if any, they want to be shared with you as their parents.
Costs
There is no charge to you for the meeting with the children, only a small administration fee of £25 each to help with set up costs.
